Introduction

Visit the Nelson Visitor Centre to get more information about public conservation land and marine reserves for the Northern South Island.

Nelson Visitor Centre is in central Nelson City on the intersection of Halifax and Trafalgar Streets. We are next to the Millers Acre car park (charges apply), and across the traffic light intersection from Nelson City Council/Nelson Visitor Information Centre (tourist office).

Opening hours

  • Monday to Friday 8.30 am – 5.00 pm
  • Saturday, Sunday and public holidays 9.00 am – 4.00 pm
  • Closed Christmas Day (25 December).

  • Abel Tasman and Kahurangi National Parks, Mount Richmond Forest Park.
  • Great Walks: Abel Tasman Coast Track and Heaphy Track.
  • DOC campsites.
  • Hiking track information and current conditions.
  • Weather reports.
  • Backcountry hut tickets.
  • Wifi and public access computers for Great Walks and bookable lodge/hut/campsite reservations.
  • Topographical maps and brochures.
  • Nelson/Tasman and Marlborough dog access permits.
